Coral Reefs

Coral Reefs are an important component of our marine ecosystem as they support approximately 25% of marine life. However, the coral reef habitats have experienced a sharp decline in recent years, with approximately 66% of the coral reefs under the state of being seriously threatened. [3]

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is disappearing. The main causes of coral damage are ocean heat waves and acidification, which are both caused by global warming. This results in a major loss of habitat for many species which could bring about their extinction. [8]
